Tips for Wedding Photography

It's your special day! How much blood, sweat, tears and money has been afforded to the biggest day of your life? How long have you put in to choose your wedding photographer? How do you choose a wedding photographer? How many wedding photographers have you consulted or do you think you're going to interview for your upcoming nuptials? If you're thinking dozens, you're probably absolutely right. Taking great wedding photographs is not something that will happen easily. To a good wedding photographer it's fun, creative and it's something they are passionate about - should be! So when planning for your big day how can you select between all the potential wedding photographers you meet or whose portfolios you look through?

keep in mind that alot wedding photographers don't hold qualifications or certificates for this work the way a doctor or dentist does. If you're thinking that a special license or certificate is going to make a difference you might want to exercise caution. Many wedding photographers have a creative flair that isn't gained from a classroom or college but from a love of their art and an in-depth knowledge of camera techniques.

Your first consideration before choosing your photographer is the style of wedding photography; contemporary, conventional, reportage etc, the choice is yours. Probably the best way to determine between wedding photographers is to analyze their portfolio with a critical eye. All photographers have websites, go through as many as you can observing for distinct styles and techniques. How do their wedding photos look? Are they lack lustre, unexciting, out of focus, amateurish or do they just look like everyone else's? Many wedding photographers use exciting poses and effects to really dress up the photos. Posing the couple in an interesting spot such as on a rock on the beach or on a small bench in an or terrace is very popular with brides rather than the standard studio poses. Remember that it is up to the wedding photographers to come up with these enchanting and exclusive poses and settings. Make sure that they have the inventive abilities to suggest such poses and settings for your own portraits.

It's also critical for wedding photographers to get a real feel for the personality of the bride and groom and the ceremony itself. Weddings can be formal, sumptuous or informal and anything in between. The photos are going to be different for the types of settings and for the brides themselves. If you're trying to pick between wedding photographers and one seems as if he or she isn't listening to you or isn't flexible about their poses and settings then perhaps you should try another. Photographs need to look as individual as you are and as your wedding will be, so your photographer needs to treat you like an individual as well.

Price is also a factor when selecting wedding photographers but keep in mind that budget usually means dissatisfaction. Your wedding is probably going to be one of the biggest and most costly days of your life and the photography is a critical element to consider of the day and for many years ahead - a picture is worth a thousand words! No photographer should just give you a set package with a "take it or leave it" attitude. Make sure they have different options available to you and to any family members or friends who may also want to purchase certain pictures as well. If you consider all these tips when selectingyour wedding photographer you're sure to make the appropriate decision. Bear in mind your photographer is there to see you through the process, it's a continual dialogue of ideas leading up to your wedding day. It's a passion not a job!!
