Introduction:

Hawaiian tradition gives the origin of the island's name in the legend

the Hawaiian Islands. Then the story unravels into how he names the
island of Maui after his son who in turn was named for the demi-god
Maui The island of Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands
at 727 square miles. Maui is part of the State of Hawai?i. The island
is the third within the state behind the islands of Oahu and Hawaii.

History:

the original peoples to populate Maui wer the Polynesians, from Tahiti
and the Marquesas. the kapu system was introduced by the The Tahitians.
It affected all aspects of life and became the core of Hawaiian
culture. After conquering Maui in the bloody Battle of Kepaniwai in
1790 in the I?ao Valley King Kamehameha I took up residence in Lahaina.
Captain James Cook became the first European explorer to discover Maui

found a suitable landing. French admiral Jean François de Galaup
de La Pérouse, was the first european to visit maui.
Lahaina was the capital of maui. The missionaries taught reading
and writing, created the 12-letter Hawaiian alphabet, started a
printing press in Lahaina, and began writing the islands' history,
until then existing only as oral accounts. The first school which was

1840-1865 was the height of the whaling era, it became the major
whaling center and the anchorage was at Lahaina Roads. Over 400 ships
visited Lahaina and the greatest number of ships berthed at one time
was about 100 ie in one season. There was drinking and prostitution at

Maui was involved in the world war-2 as a staging center, training and
as a relaxation center. in 1943-44, the number of troops stationed on
Maui exceeded 100,000. The main base of the 4th Marines was in Haiku.
Beaches were used for practice landings and training in marine
demolition and sabotage.

When it comes to the island of paradise there are many places of
interest. the Island of Maui tends to appeal to visitors mostly from
the US mainland and Canada: there are activities of air, ocean, land

In west Maui there is whaler’s village, lahaina canary mall, lahaina
center. in south maui there is wailia shopping village, and in central maui
there are ka’ahumanu.

We get Chinese, Italian, Hawaiian, Japanese, Mexican, sea food and
various specialities.
