Vacation Spots in Southern California

There's no place quite like California. Imagine it - a beautiful place filled with beautiful people. Southern California is the land of sun and surf. Southern California does have a winter season, with slightly cooler temperatures, but even then the weather is wonderful year round. Plus, California has the advantage of not having hurricane season - there won't be any storms to interfere with vacation plans. There is something for every member of the family to be found in Southern California.

One of the main attractions of Southern California is Disneyland. This popular theme park attracts kids of all ages. Located in Anaheim, Disneyland is the number one tourist attraction when visiting this area. You literally can spend several days in the park. There are hotels within the park and also in the surrounding areas which cater to tourists visiting Disneyland - spend the morning at the park, and the afternoon at the hotel lounging by the pool Disneyland has a steady stream of visitors, but also has peak seasons where the number of tourists increase substantially. While there will be lines during these peak times, the park is designed for groups to move quickly through lines. Even with the occasional wait, the rides are so fantastic and fun, it's well worth the wait. Most children find Disneyland truly a magical experience. Remember to take lots of pictures of your children as they interact with the Disney characters throughout the park.

If the Disneyland rides are a little too tame for you, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles may be the place to go. This mega-amusement park is filled with rides that will get your heart pumping and your adrenaline flowing. Six Flags Magic Mountain offers some of the most thrilling rides in North America. The highlight is the huge variety of roller coasters this park offers. These coasters are not for the faint of heart. Six Flags Magic Mountain boasts some of the fastest, highest, and most innovative coasters around. As with Disneyland, during the peak season line-ups can be very long, be sure to go early and on a weekday if you can.

The beach is one of the biggest reasons people visit Southern California. There is usually a cool breeze coming off the ocean so even the hottest days can be enjoyable. Be careful though, the balmy breeze may lead you to believe that the sun isn’t as hot as it is and many tourists have ended up with horrendous sunburns. Sunblock is a must. Some of the most attractive beaches are in Malibu and Santa Monica. Santa Monica is a fabulous place to spend the day. Pacific Palisades Park is simply beautiful with its palm trees and cliffs overlooking the ocean. You can also head up to the Promenade for some high-end and funky shopping. The beaches are typically well-kept and clean. Parking is a hot commodity so be sure to head there early.

Southern California is a sun-lover’s paradise and fun for the whole family. There are so many things to do and sites to see, be sure to leave yourself plenty of time.
