Top Crazy Diet Plans of Our Times

By: James English

There are diet plans and then there are some diet plans. Some will throw medical mumbo-jumbo at consumers, some will fake research, some take a leap of faith to conclusions, and some just ride on the coat tail of real research.

Of all these, I found the following diets the worst and some crazy ideas as a diet. Call them fads, call them snake oils, call them whatever you want - there is someone who made money on these diets, and it came from your pocket and mine.

Should insanity take over your mind, and have tried any of these diets, or found an even nuttier one, please let me know how it went.

Cabbage Soup Diet
This diet was devices to to drop a quick ten pounds within a week and then stop the diet all together. This obviously also means that the weight gain immediately comes back back once you stop eating that way.

This is how that one week works - Day one only eat fruits and milk. Day two eat only vegetables and milk. Third day eat only bananas and milk. Then you rotate these eating methods. Any day within the sequence you can eat all the cabbage soup you can handle.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet
I like vinegar in some food, like a good bowl of lentil soup, but three spoonful before every meal? That is what the Apple Cider diet is about. You get your Manganese and Potassium daily requirement for sure, which is a plus. The question is, couldn't you just eat a banana? Unfortunatelly, this diet does nothing. Bumps on your tongue maybe, even a sour stomach, but no weight loss. Unless you get the runs from all the apple cider vinegar.

Grapefruit Diet
Eat either a half a grapefruit or drink 8 fl oz of unsweetened grapefruit. Eat salads and meat for every meal, and of course the recommended grapefruit and loose weight. So what's the problem with this diet? There is no limitation placed on how much one should eat within those meals. It presumes that the grapefruit will do it's magic trick and eliminate the pesky caloric intake.

Of course, if someone limited their diet to vegetables and meats, fish, etc. using sensible amounts, weight loss will happen. It goes back to the basic principles of dieting. Either reduce calories, increase the buring of calories, or both. Vegetables tend to be lower in calories then breads, pastas and such. This is not the case with fat within meats, so consuming as much as one wants, is not the best idea.

Blood Type Diet
Eat according to your blood type, as in, if you have blood type A, B, O, AB, etc. After reading this diet, you will be confinced that if you have A blood type, you cannot have milk, or wheat if you are O type. You will also learn that Type O blood owners cannot produce iodine. This is absolutely true! The only problem is that no blood type produces any iodine; as in - humans do not produce iodine. Ever wondered about the iodized salt? Continuing on the crazy train, Type O dieters are cro-magnon type and should eat lots of red meat, and the type AB are from the Roman Empire... I am not sure how the history works it's ways but I am sure the author used enough long words to confuse some. This is really a cooky diet.

Amputation diet
This is related to loosing weight by remove certain body parts. I think this is more of a joke than a real diet. Hair cuts, giving blood, trimming nails, breast reduction, and even donating a kidney falls under this diet. Loosing a kidney will reduce your weight by about 3 pounds. I would consider this diet one of the more crazy ones.

Coconut Diet
Sort of falls in line with the cabbage, and grapefruit diet, doesn't it? How does the coconut diet work? Take tablespoon of coconut oil with each meal. That is it. The magic works supposedly by making you feel fuller. It should considering that 1 fl oz of coconut oil contains 241 calories and of the 1 oz, more then 85% of it is saturated fat! One ounce of this stuff is 121% of the daily recommended saturated fat! Need I say more?

The 3 Day Diet
Hey, who doesn't love a diet where you only have to work for couple of days, then voila, you are runway thin! The diet requires one to eat less then 600 calories a day. Let's see, the Basal Metabolic Rate calculator says for my organs (that's those pesky parts like brain, lungs, liver) to function, I need to consume at least 1323 calories a day... I wonder how long would I last with 600 calories a day before I am dead?
