SALT WATER POOL ARE CHLORINE POOLS

By: Fast Pool

This subject came to light when a client of mine was trying to avoid chlorine swimming pool because of her asthmatic child and asked me for a Salt Water Swimming Pool. This of course turned into an hour long discussion about how to approach her needs but the key thing to note is that Salt Water Pool generate chlorine!

Without getting into all the details of chemistry let me just lay this subject out simple for everyone to understand:

1. You have a swimming pool filled with the appropriate amount of salt and water.

2. You have a Salt Water System a.k.a. Chlorine Generator.

3. The water passes through a cell that has positive and negative plates that create a small energy field.

4. The electrical field converts the salty water into chlorine.

The biggest up side to these systems is that you do not have to store chlorine in your home or garage. This chemical has to be one of the most dangerous chemicals you could ever store in your home. If you have to store this chemical make sure the area is well ventilated because it can release a toxic gas that can be deadly.

I break the real benefits of a salt system down so that everyone can better relate. I have a wife and two daughters that will occasionally go to the community swimming pool in our neighborhood. They never stay there for long and when they come back their eyes are red, their skin is dry and they always use the most expensive conditioner that night to treat their scorched hair.

Now fast forward to a day later in our private swimming pool and you will find the same three ladies swimming all day without a complaint. Think about it, you're swimming in saline that is more soft on your skin. I personally swim around with my eyes open and unprotected under water and never have an issue. Both myself and our daughters all have eczema and none of us ever have any real flare ups while swimming in a Salt Water Pool. That alone made me a permanent believer!

The Biggest Myth? Salt Water pools are not as salty as the ocean. The ocean is probably around 80,000 parts per billion salt versus a swimming pool that has a salt range of between 2,700 to 3,400 parts per billion. You will notice the salt the first week or two when you swim but you will become used to it and not even notice it, I promise.
