Photography: A Hobby and a Business

By: Jason22 Jason22

Did you know that even amateur photographers can have a place in the business of selling their photos? Yes, you read it right. Sellable pictures are not only made by the works of veterans but even newbie’s can earn money form this hobby as well. All it takes is finding the right clients such as web designers or maybe joining photo contests which offer not only a monetary price but the chance of being known by the rest of the photography enthusiasts. So if you want to find out how you can turn your hobby into a business, then just read on and learn!

As I mentioned before, web designers are constantly in need of a lot of pictures for every project that they have. Finding a photographer to supply them with pictures is much more convenient than having to take ones on their own. On average, a web designer would require 10 to 30 photos per website project and considering the average selling rate per picture and given that you can supply him or her an average of 20 photos a month, you can get a considerable amount of money in the end. Apart from that, entering into photography contests is also a good way to earn money. Although you would really need high quality pictures to be able to bag the prize, getting yourself known in the industry is quite a good pay off.

One of the newest schemes for photographers to earn more bucks is through micro payments. Instead of selling single photographs at a particular price, they now make them available to their clients at a very low value, at bulk numbers. This way, they can sell more photographs at a given period of time. In the end, they will end up earning even more than selling one picture at a time.

But even if you are still an amateur photographer, it would still require a certain amount of creativity or skill, even, to get noticed by web designer clients and most of all, in photography contests. If you do not have the money to put yourself in a formal class, what you can do is find on-line photography tutorials and self teach manuals for you to improve your art. And finally, investing in a good camera is another very important thing that a photographer can do. Although finding a good camera can cost you quite a lot, being able to get good pictures and find a steady client will be definitely compensate for the cost!

But apart from the training and the equipment, the most important thing you need to consider is if you are interested in photography is the first place? Do you enjoy taking photographs at all? If not, them it is useless to join any photography contest or be in the business of selling photos. As they say, photographs taken with a heart always come out more beautiful. So if your passion is of photography, then by all means, make it your dream job as well!
