Five Tips For Choosing an Affiliate Program.

by Jason McKinney

Based on comments I have received from my last post I have decided to write a quick blob on the different things I look for when considering to promote an item as an affiliate. For those of you who missed my first post I have included a link at the end of the article where you can find it.
1. Support.
When you are choosing an affiliate program to promote you should make sure that they offer some kind of support. You will have questions and you need to make sure someone is there to answer them.
2. Commission.
You should always make sure that what the affiliate program is paying is worth your time to promote the item. I will not promote anything that is not paying at least a 50% commission. You also need to pay attention to how much money is paid out. 50% of $2.00 is not exactly worth my time in promoting something!!
3. Tools.
You should look at what tools are provided in the affiliate program for actually promoting the item. Most affiliate programs will provide you with emails, PPC ads, solo ads, and banners. You should use these only for the ideas, remember everyone else promoting this program is seeing the same page so you need to make your ad stand out from the others.
4. Proof of Payouts.
You should always make sure that the affiliate program you are considering is actually paying it's affiliates. There are scams out there and you need to make sure you are not considering promoting one of them. If an affiliate program will not provide you with any kind of an idea how much their affiliates are earning, you should probably move on and promote something else.
5. Sales Page.
You should always look at the sale page of an affiliate program. If it doesn't make you consider purchasing the product, more than likely your potential customers will feel the same way.
These are the most basic five items I consider when deciding if I should promote a program. Yes there are other things you should take into consideration, but these are the basic things that you need to consider when first starting out in the affiliate marketing business.
