You can generally use a spray bottle to help apply small amounts of the cleaning product onto the carpet more easily.

It can be hard work depending on the stain and it can be a bit vigorous trying to get stains out, but it is cheaper than getting it cleaned professionally. So remember that you need to be a bit more careful with the carpet and try and treat it as soon as possible in order to avoid extra work in the long run.
