Caribbean Getaway

By:

The Caribbean is the number one vacation spot for thousands every year. It appeals to so many because it offers so much. You'll find sun, sand, warm water and multitudes of friendly souls. Keep reading to learn why the Caribbean is so popular.

The area called the Caribbean actually consists of a group of islands that are located in the Caribbean Sea. The east coast of Mexico is also considered part of the Caribbean including the notable cities of Cancun, Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera. The weather in this area is wonderful year round, and is becoming one of the "hot" areas for retirees from the north - otherwise known as "snowbirds."

With so many islands in the Caribbean, it's hard to pick exactly where to spend your holiday. Each one has its own unique history and flavor. On many of them you will find ruins that draw you in and make you wonder about past civilizations. The ruins at the Mayan Riviera feature archeological sites dating back to the Mayan era. They will fascinate and inspire you, they are so interesting. Some islands, such as Saint Martin/ Sint Maarten are multi-national. This island has both a French half and a Dutch half to explore.

One of the sights that you won’t want to miss when you visit the Caribbean is the island of Guadeloupe. Guadeloupe consists of two islands: Grande-Terre and Basse- Terre. The islands have a huge Creole influence and culture, merging a flamboyant blend of African and French traditions. Guadeloupe is famous for its wonderful beaches and resorts, as well as its rum! When you visit Guadeloupe you will be pleasantly surprised as you travel the islands visiting the many beaches, the modern cities, and the out of the way inlets.

St. Thomas is another well known Caribbean Island, known by sailors all over the world as one of the great yacht capitals. You can shop for hours and then return to your own villa or a whole resort. Either way you're in for an exotic treat. The capital of St. Thomas is Charlotte Amalie. Here you can sample the fare at a number of restaurants lining the streets and then walk along the boardwalk. If you like staying out all night there are many bars along the coastal waters that will accommodate you.

No matter what islands of the Caribbean that you choose to visit you can always be assured of blue pristine waters underneath an amazing sun. You’ll always find something that will grab your attention and keep you coming back time and time again.
