Air Purifier Basics: Why and How to Purchase an Air Purifier

By: Jeff Dodd

If you believe that air purifiers are pricey luxury equipment, read on. You are more likely to find out the benefits of having an equipment that gets rid of air pollutants and improves the kind of the air you breathe.

Why Purchase an Air Purifier

Researches prove that indoor air is twice to five times dirtier than outdoor air. This is for reason that homes and buildings today are made to keep air inside to prevent heat gain during summer and heat loss during winter. As a result, air pollutants that come from dusts and mold spores build up.

The polluted air that circulates in the home can be dangerous for reason that air pollutants like dander flakes from pets and tobacco smoke can in fact cause asthmatic and allergic reactions. In addition to this, a number of people prefer to work and stay indoors and are more exposed to polluted indoor air. The consequence of breathing in polluted indoor air is more detrimental for people who get illness always and are more prone to allergies. An ideal option is therefore to ensure better indoor air that is safe for everyone. Reduction of allergens and airborne dirts in the air is best accomplished by an air purifier. Air purifiers eliminate pollutants and reduces the likelihood of people getting diseases because of air pollutants and viruses.

How to Purchase an Air Purifier

Consider the appearance of the device. This aspect is inclusive of the size, portability and visual appeal of an air purifier. Go for units with sizes that are just right for you. You may not want to cramp your home with an air purifier that is almost as big and bulky as your bedroom. You may check on the portability of the unit so you can bring the device to wherever part of the house you want to be. Visual presentation of the equipment should also match most of your indoor area so it harmonizes with the interior theme.

Evaluate the noise level. It would be best to find a unit that will not disturb you when you sleep. A good air purifier will not only clean your indoor air, it will not also disturb you with noise.

Know the unit specs. You will know which unit works better by checking the Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR). A higher CADR means stronger purification power. You should also check the filter specifications because HEPA filter should be able to filter at least 99.97% of air pollutants of 0.3 micrometers in size. Watch out for devices marked with "HEPA-type" or "HEPA-like" for reason that they may not meet this requirement. Check also the frequency of filter replacement because the filter itself is expensive and frequent filter replacements may become too pricey and burdensome.

Air purifier is no longer a luxury item. In places where dusts, smokes and other allergens can have health effects, air purifiers are the best option to protect yourself from the harm of dirty indoor air.
